This week in unsmoked, The Piperack has more unsmoked 1970's and 1980's old stock, unsmoked pipes that we recently unearthed that apparently we missed before, including a number of unsmoked Savinellis, some unsmoked GBDs and even some unsmoked Ascortis (including a Tinderbox 75th Anniversary set). From Savinelli, there's an unsmoked Capri Root Briar in tan as well as a pair of Savinelli De Luxes, unsmoked since the 1970s. GBD brings us a cool Dynasty Bulldog but an even cooler unsmoked Virgin, while Ascorti has a number of pieces including the aforementioned Tinderbox set as well as a rare "Novita" smooth bent. There's even an unsmoked smooth Parker!
In estates this week, the "Piperack Pick" goes to the 2007 Peterson Smooth Silver Spigot Bent Apple XL02. Peterson is an interesting brand. While many pipe collectors have any number of brands in their racks, there are a whole lot of smokers who are die-hard Peterson fans. By this, I don't mean they have a couple Petersons; I mean they smoke Petersons, and that's that. Not interested in changing, not interested in the latest and greatest, take your Dunhill and....well, you get the point. This gorgeous Peterson is a 2007 Hallmarked silver spigot large bent apple. The overall condition of this piece is fantastic, with just some slight rounding on the inner rim, a stellar grain pattern with strong flamegrain on the left and right, and amazing birdseye on the front and bottom of the bowl, the original standard stem (no P-Lip!) and nice clear silver stampings. This one is is lightly smoked and gorgeous! And to top it all off, it looks clean! If there's fills, I can't find them. Check out the additional photos of the grain - they're impressive! Rated 9.85 out of 10, this piece is darn near close to unsmoked and is in exceptional, lightly smoked condition. Also from England, there are another two Petersons (including a pre-Republic "Captain Pete" that won't break the bank and a meerschaum Sherlock Holmes "Professor"), as well as a trio of fantastic Dunhills (check out the 1950 LBS Shell Patent, or the fantastic Root 5103 billiard), a lovely family-era Sasieni Four Dot "Brooklands" bulldog from the 1950s, a James Upshall P Grade Liverpool and many more. From the USA, there's a 1930s Kaywoodie Four Digit bent apple in really great shape as well as a pre-1946 Custom-bilt and a Ron Fairchild smooth Dublin, while Denmark, Germany and Austria bring us great pipes from Peter Matzhold (a stunning F Grade), Rainer Barbi (a very cool paneled bent Dublin) and a Preben Holm Caprice in excellent condition. Not your thing? Well, Italy offers us some great pieces including a gigante Thomas Christiano, a Radice Rind G, a pair of great Ardors, and more.
Don't miss the 1960's Gresham Giant smooth Cavalier, or the 1966 Dunhill Quaint Shell O squat Bulldog! The next update comes August 6th with more great pipes from around the world!
