OUR ESTATE PIPE PURCHASE POLICY:

The Piperack purchases pipes and pipe collections large and small. We also purchase sealed vintage tobacco tins, racks, and accessories. Pipe brands we are most interested in include Dunhill, Sasieni, Barling's Make, Charatan, Upshall, Castello, and Danish high-grades like Eltang, Knudsen, Bang, and Chonowitsch. We are also looking for sealed vintage tins of Sobranie, Sullivan Powell, old Dunhill blends, State Express, Garfinkel's, Escudo, Three Nuns, or any high-quality English or Virginia tobacco. PLEASE NOTE that we reserve the right to refuse any items for purchase consideration for any reason.

We purchase pipes and sealed vintage tins for 45% to 50% of the price we expect to recover when we sell the pipe, based on the current condition of the pipe and other factors, such as market conditions, our dealer status and current inventory. In other words, if a pipe has a current saleable value of $100, we offer $45 to $50 to purchase that pipe. Note that the actual sale price of the pipe may increase after restoration; in other words, if we purchase a pipe for $50 that needs full restoration, it may sell for more than $100 after we restore the pipe. Please send me an eMail for additional details.

OUR ESTATE PIPE CONSIGNMENT POLICY:

If you have a large collection, The Piperack can consign your collection of pipes and sealed vintage tins for you. This simply means that The Piperack can sell your items on your behalf. We handle the cleanup, photography, HTML, sale via website or eBay, eMails with the customers, and shipping. For those who don't want to deal with the technical details of selling on a website or through eBay, consignment sales are the way to go. PLEASE NOTE that we reserve the right to refuse any items for consignment for any reason.

PLEASE NOTE: OUR CONSIGNMENT POLICIES HAVE CHANGED. The largest change is that we are now only accepting consigments on larger collections; mainly, we will only consider consignments of 50 pipes or more (based on an average sale price of $100 per pipe) or smaller consignments of 25 to 49 pipes (based on an average sale price of $150 per pipe.) FOR SMALLER COLLECTIONS, please consider our purchase or trade policies above. Our revised consignment policies are shown below. Please send me an eMail for additional details.

01. For all pipes (unsmoked or estate), accessories, and sealed vintage tins, we charge a negotiated 35% to 40% of the final sale price as a consignment fee. On "estate" pipes, there will be a charge for cleanup of between $7 and $25 per pipe, depending on the complexity of the restoration. (Please note: Most pipes will cost between $7 and $12; only issues like topping, dent removal or re-finishing will cause a higher charge.) The only exception to this cleanup charge will be in the event the pipes have already been professionally restored to our website's standards. We reserve the right to determine if a pipe has been cleaned to our website's standards.

02. Items are first listed on the website for between 2 and 4 weeks. If they do not sell on The Piperack, they will then be offered on eBay after this time. The total time it will take from when we receive your consignment until you have a check in your hand will range from six weeks to three months depending upon the amount of pipes you have to consign and the number of consignments that are in front of you. Larger consignments - over 75 items - can take longer.

03. Consignment fees are charged on all pipes that actually *sell*; any that are listed but do not sell are charged a $10 website listing fee as well as any eBay fees that we are imposed in listing them. Average eBay fees are typically $4 or $5 per item, and these charges would ONLY apply if an item did not sell. PLEASE NOTE that these charges are only to partially recover our costs, not to make a profit, and ARE NOT in addition to consignment fees, but are only in the event that an item does NOT sell via our website or eBay. IN THE EVENT AN ITEM SELLS, THERE ARE NO OTHER FEES OUTSIDE OF CONSIGNMENT FEES.

04. Website prices and/or auction reserve prices will be set mutually by the consignor and The Piperack.

05. All auctions where the item is valued over $50 will be reserve auctions.

06. If an item does not sell it can be relisted or returned to the consignor. The consignor will be responsible for any and all listing fees on the pipe (persuant to item #03 above), if a sale on that item is not completed.

07. If an item is listed on eBay twice and does not sell, the reserve must be lowered or offered without a reserve (selling to the high bidder, whatever the ending auction value is), or returned to the consignor.

08. We reserve the right to refuse to sell any particular item for any reason.

09. Payment to the consignor will occur after all items have been sold and examined by the buyers; due to The Piperack's one week return policy, funds cannot be released until all buyers have claimed satisfaction.
