Carlo Scotti carved the first Castello pipe in 1947. As a pioneer in high grade pipes, Castello has produced some of the finest, and most sought after Italian pipes in the world. Using only the best "extra-extra" grade briar, aged for at least 6 yrs, Castello set the bar in quality and craftsmanship against which all other Italian pipes are judged. Many other great Italian pipe brands can trace their roots back to Castello.
The Castello “Collection Fiamatta” grade is reserved for the absolute “cream-of-the-crop” pieces, in regards to graining and clean briar. They are graded one to four “K’s”, with the KKKK being the absolute top of the heap. Very few Fiamatta pieces are produced annually, and they are the highest grade Castello offers.
This particular piece is stunning “Collection Fiamatta” one-K billiard with briar stem treatment. The graining is magnificent, with sweeping straightgrain all around the front and sides, and flamegrain on the back of the bowl (facing the smoker). The rim and heel are peppered with birdseye, the stem is Lucite with the Castello white bar logo, and the briar stem treatment really adds a nice touch. A classic, beautiful Castello.
