Carlo Scotti carved the first Castello pipe in 1947. As a pioneer in high grade pipes, Castello has produced some of the finest, and most sought after Italian pipes in the world. Using only the best "extra-extra" grade briar, aged for at least 6 yrs, Castello set the bar in quality and craftsmanship against which all other Italian pipes are judged. Many other great Italian pipe brands can trace their roots back to Castello.
In 1987, Castello celebrated its 40-year Anniversary. For this important event, Castello created a very special pipe, limited to 50 pieces worldwide: the #293. Twenty years later, the #293 is till in production, and very popular with collectors. This piece is one of the original 50 pieces; number 38 of 50. It’s a tan blasted Old Antiquari with a deep chamber, wavy rim and acrylic stick bit. There is no size designation on this piece, but it’s a solid 4K in overall size. This pipe was smoked once, as evidenced by bare briar in the chamber.
