Ser Jacopo is one of the most influential Italian brands to be formed in the past 20 years. Giancarlo Guidi started Ser Jacopo in 1982 after leaving another company he formed called Mastro De Paja (perhaps you have heard of it?). The amount of knowledge and passion this man possesses is evident in the pipes he makes.
This Ser Jacopo is smaller-sized Canadian in the reddish-brown R1 rustic finish, featuring a lightly smoked, super smooth chamber, soft, tight rustication and brand new, unsmoked acrylic replacement stem. This pipe is stamped with a “G”, which signifies that this was from the last run of pipes with the older “coral dot” logo before Ser Jacopo changed to the silver “J”.
Markings read: Ser Jacopo, FATTA A MANO in ITALIA, Per Aspera Ad Astra, R1, G. Measurements: 6" long, bowl is 1 3/8" wide and 1 3/4" tall. The pipe is very light at 38 grams. About a Dunhill group 3 in capacity.
Condition:
9 out of 10. Issues: Inner rim edge shows just a slight hint of darkening and a couple of pinprick knock marks, and as mentioned above, the stem is an and brand new, unsmoked acrylic replacement. I rarely rate a re-stemmed piece a “9”, but one this one I did due to excellent, lightly smoked condition of the pipe. Super-clean and ready to smoke.
