Product Description

Le Nuvole Three Cloud Prince w/Silver Band

Description, Markings, Measurements:

Maurizio Tombari and his wife, Stefania, have been making 200 to 300 Le Nuvole pipes since 1996.  Utilizing aged Calabrian and Tuscan briar, Le Nuvoles smoke great due to the long drying period of the briar (a minimum of three years).  Having owned a number of Le Nuvoles over the years (many purchased directly from Maurizio), I can certainly attest to the neutral, clean flavor of his pipes.  And really, having worked for both Ser Jacopo and Mastro De Paja before creating his own line, it isn't really any surprise; the man knows how to make a great pipe.  While many Le Nuvoles are unique, artistic shapes, he and his wife also make some lovely classic shapes.  Le Nuvoles have always been relative bargains for what you get; on the estate market, this is even more true.

Product Description:

This particular Le Nuvole is a 3 Cloud, which is the base entry-level smooth finish.  The grain is mixed flame grain with some wash here and there, stained in a natural orange-toned tan.  The shape is a slightly bent prince with a silver band and handcut taper stem.  Not quite "English classic" in design, but certainly lacking the typical fat and chunky Pesaro styling, this one is elegant and lithe with a gentle curve to the shank and stem.  It is obvious that Maurizio spends the same amount of time on his entry level pipes as he does on his Zed series of high-end, one-of-a-kind straight grain freehands.

Markings read:  LAVORATE A MANO IN ITALIA, LE NUVOLE, 3 (cloud symbol).  The stem also features the cloud symbol in white.

Length: 5.79"
Bowl width: 1.59"
Bowl Height: 1.45"
Chamber dimensions: .76" across, 1.19" deep

9 out of 10. Issues are all relatively minor:  A very small, shallow toothmark on the bottom of the stem, some darkening on the rounded rim, and a smattering of handling marks here and there on the pipe (none serious, and none deep).  Lovingly cleaned and restored, and ready to pack and light.
