Product Description

2001 Dunhill Ring Grain 3206 - No Issues

Description, Markings, Measurements:

The Shell finish, introduced by Dunhill in the 1920's, has been constantly evolving. Although Dunhill employs a variety of finishes, many smokers consider the Shell finish to be their favorite - myself included. Excellent blast patterns, striking highlights, superb smoking qualities... New or old, a Shell Briar always looks, feels, and smokes great.  There's something special about a well-aged, well-cared-for old Shell, particularly those from about the mid 1960s and earlier. The blasts are craggy, with "character", the edges have softened slightly, exposing a dark red layer of highlight under the deep chocolate-brown stain, while the underlying grain is sharp and detailed.  For whatever reason - a different wood source, a mandate that Shells become more "uniform", who knows - sometime in the mid 1960s that wonderful craggy character went away, replaced by a shallower, more even blast.  But I prefer the old ones.  They smoke great, they look great, and they feel great in the hand and in the mouth.

This particular Dunhill is a 3206 Ring Grain, and it is in exceptional, barely smoked condition.  In Dunhill shorthand, 3206 means it is a group 3, has a saddle stem (the 2), and is a pot shape (the 06), but I really think this looks more like a billiard to me.  This pipe is in truly exceptional condition with zero conditional issues; seriously, I don't know it's been smoked more than a dozen times, and I doubt it had ever seen a buffing wheel as there is literally no wear to anything.  All nomenclature is perfect. The blast is perfect. Even the inner rim edge is sharp and crisp.  Current retail on a brand new Dunhill Ring Grain group 3 is just a touch under $600; this one is a little over half that, but considering the condition (MINT, with NO issues), I'm sure someone is going to jump on it quickly.

Markings are all CRISP: dunhill (in an oval) 3206, RING GRAIN, MADE IN ENGLAND01.  Stampings are deep and crisp and in perfect order.
